Can You Fix a Negative Canthal Tilt?

First find out whether the angle is negative on a level photo. Most “fixes” discussed online change the picture, not the anatomy. Surgery is a medical decision this site does not make.

Measure my canthal tilt

Measure before you try to change anything

A negative direction means the outer corner is lower than the inner corner on that image. Start with the negative canthal tilt page and a front-facing photo. A result inside ±2° is near level even when the sign is negative. Do not treat −0.8° as a problem to solve.

A photo can fake a negative angle

Camera height, pitch, yaw, roll, and expression can change the apparent angle. Retake with the lens at eye level and the face straight ahead before you decide the corner itself is low. The measurement method explains which poses are rejected.

What can change the picture only

  • Makeup that redraws the outer corner
  • Brow styling that changes the frame around the eye
  • Camera height and a still, front-facing pose
  • Expression, including how open the eye is

These change appearance in an image. They do not change the lateral canthus.

Exercises, massage, and mewing

There is no reliable evidence that facial exercises, massage, or mewing change the lateral canthal tendon or the bony geometry that sets the corner. Clinical photogrammetry of canthal tilt discusses measurement and, in a surgical context, procedures such as canthopexy. It does not support an exercise protocol.[1]

Surgery, explained only

Canthoplasty and canthopexy are eyelid operations that a surgeon may discuss when changing canthal position is actually the goal. One photographic study of orbital dystopia mentions medial or lateral canthopexy as a way clinicians have addressed vertical asymmetry of the eyelids.[1] That is a description of surgical practice, not a recommendation.

These operations belong with a qualified oculoplastic surgeon or plastic surgeon who can examine the individual. This site does not recommend a procedure, a surgeon, or a technique, and it does not give instructions for doing either operation.

New eyelid changes are a clinical question

Sudden drooping, a new asymmetry, pain, or a change in vision should be assessed by a qualified clinician. Those symptoms are not a looksmaxxing problem and not something to measure away with a selfie.

Can makeup or a camera change the anatomy?

No. Makeup, brows, expression, and camera position can change the photograph. They do not move the lateral canthal tendon.

Do exercises or mewing change canthal tilt?

There is no reliable evidence that exercises, massage, or mewing change the lateral canthal tendon or the underlying corner geometry.

When should a person see a clinician?

A new change in eyelid position, drooping, pain, or a vision problem should be assessed by a qualified clinician. It is not a looksmaxxing question.
